The Global Energy Districts Program (GEDP) participated in the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum (IVECF) 2026, one of the world’s leading platforms for discussions on energy, climate, and sustainable development. Held on April 9–10 at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria, the event was organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and brought together more than 1,400 leaders, experts, and representatives from 147 countries to advance solutions for global energy transition and green industrialization challenges.
Representing GEDP, Cristina Mariaca, the program’s International Technical and Strategic Coordinator, met with key stakeholders including Global Energy Efficiency, OLADE - Latin American Energy Organization, and other international entities promoting sustainable urban energy solutions. Throughout the forum, energy districts were highlighted as a key alternative for advancing more efficient, resilient, and low-carbon urban development models.
Participation in the forum also created opportunities to strengthen international partnerships, exchange experiences related to district energy, and explore new collaboration opportunities to continue promoting energy districts, especially in Latin America, where cities are facing increasing challenges related to sustainability, energy efficiency, and climate adaptation.
