The CEPM Energy District, located in Bávaro, Dominican Republic, is a pioneering project in the Caribbean that harnesses waste heat from electricity generation to produce thermal energy. The system distributes hot water at approximately 120°C through 14.5 km of networks, enabling the production of chilled water for air conditioning and domestic hot water for hotels.

With an investment of more than USD 18 million, the project generates savings of approximately 30% in hotels’ operating costs and avoids approximately 28,000 tonnes of GHG emissions per year.

Thermal capacity: 19.2 MWt

Start of operations: 2013
